The Alberta Energy Regulator ensures the safe, efficient, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of hydrocarbon resources over their entire life cycle. This includes allocating and conserving water resources, managing public lands, and protecting the environment while providing economic benefits for all Albertans.

Description of Services

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) retained Blunt to act as an extra set of hands in their communications department during their changeover from the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) to the AER in 2013/2014, as mandated by the Alberta Government.

Blunt worked with the AER on copywriting projects that entailed both writing and editing, as well as working with several groups of internal staff to understand, document and effectively respond to communications requirements. Blunt edited and wrote over 150 pages of copy that comprise the regulator’s new website:; as well as the professional biographies for the AER’s hearing commissioners and board of directors.

As part of a comprehensive change-management exercise, Blunt worked with 22 various groups of AER staff to map and document current processes as well as their planned future states during the transition from the ERCB to AER. These documents were then used to inform detailed communications plans that were written for each of the 22 departments. Blunt was responsible for producing approximately 10 of the plans, including the development of key messages, identification of stakeholder needs, establishing communications goals and tactics, and pairing them with effective executions.

Post the transition, Blunt has worked with the AER on facilitation exercises for the Office of Public Affairs and other ad-hoc communications projects.

Agnes's ability to listen well, learn quickly and understand our business needs was key to delivering the highest quality communications work and advice under unreasonable deadlines. Professional, strategic and a pleasure to work with!
